STORE MIX 100 ARCHIVE: NICK THE RECORD

MEET NICK GIRDWOOD, AKA NICK THE RECORD, THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF THE FINEST DISCO RE-EDITS OF THE LAST 30 YEARS.

Nick The Record is not only a gifted DJ, but one of the UK’s most respected record dealers, having been involved in the music scene for over 30 years favouring underground disco, afro, soul, funk and house. It’s been more than 10 years since his last set for LN-CC, and now he’s back as part of the line-up of captivating DJs making their mark for our 100th Store Mix.

Nick started his career DJing free parties in London, taking his passion for energetic sounds and feel-good rhythm to Japan where he DJed the country’s first-ever outdoor rave in 1993. This was the moment that ignited his dance party, Lifeforce, which he hosted every three months for almost 20 years – shaping the Japanese party scene.

In recent years, he’s been sharing his music closer to home, delivering sets at some of Europe’s top festivals including Garden Festival, Love International and Dekmantel events. In London, he plays a monthly residency at Jazz Cafe and guest spots around town.

“I just returned from a tour in Japan & Mongolia and the mix is from the early part of a seven-hour set l played in Osaka. The live recording is taken from the ‘Warm Up’ hour of the party, it’s kinda chill but always progressing so you could certainly chill to it but it would also be great for getting ready to go out for a night of adventure.”

Nick’s first store mix for LN-CC, Store Mix 010, was recorded live. So, to commemorate his return, it only seemed fitting to do the same. This 90-minute set is an original recording from a recent live mix from a party at Compufunk Records – a record shop and bar that hosts weekly parties. Sit, back, relax, and find your groove.
