Kowtow is a Chinese word that represents the act of deep respect, shown by kneeling and bowing so low that your head touches the ground. Founded by Gosia Piatek in 2007, with no official fashion experience, she spent a year researching ethical manufacturers and came across a company in India that only works with fair trade and organic cotton. The factory’s employees receive a fair wage and working benefits as well as a certified working environment. Combining the organic fabrication and manufacturing with GOTS approved dyes she began creating collections that were relaxed and easy to wear. The labels aesthetic is minimal, androgynous and classic which allows for the high quality fabrication to be illuminated. Effortlessly elegant, pieces often feature bold graphics and colour combinations, executed in a unique style. Constantly drawn to the roots of her brand, she is inspired by the things seen on her travels and the organic industry in which she is championing with her considered and conscious collections.
