DISKO Andrew Miksys
Lithuanian-American photographer Andrew Miksys has spent the last ten years visiting and documenting individuals and celebrating them in his shared motherland, Lithuania. Preoccupied with the country’s tumultuous Soviet history and its ever-changing culture, Miksys’ focus is on the Lithuanian youth and their countryside club scene. Exploring abandoned detention centres, mushroom-packing plants and ex-Soviet offices, the venues for the new generation’s discos, Miksys takes viewers into intimate spaces of the past to reveal hungry young bodies liberated in dance under ephemeral disco lights. Synonymous with the medieval pagan rites of dancing in the forest, Miksys perfectly captures the past decade’s urban disco rites in a 45 page, glittery hardback publication.
