“Dive Dark Dream Slow” is created entirely from photographs acquired by Peter J. Cohen. His collection of approximately two hundred thousand photographs were sourced from estate sales, flea markets and the internet. Individually the photographs have very little monetary value because they were taken by amateur photographers, who documented special, fleeting moments. As a collection however, the photographs adorn new meaning and through clever curation new threads of significance have been created. The photographs in “Dive Dark Dream Slow” were selected from the archive by book photographer and bookseller Melissa Cantanese. Her chosen snapshots are meticulously laid out so that the series tell a dreamy story of sensual, tentative moments that fit together so fluidly one could assume they were taken directly for a photo album.
