Isolated Places - Keizo Kitajima
- Keizo Kitajima
- Rathole, 2012
Keizo Kitajima is renowned for his Japanese street photography taken between the late seventies and early nineties. In 1992 Kitajima set out on two new projects, the first 'Portraits' and the second which is compiled within this book 'Places'. This work was taken across two decades and documents landscapes that are completely void of human beings. At the start of the project the locations were large metropolitan cities such as Tokyo, London and New York. However over the course of time Kitajima has chosen not to leave Japan and instead sought out remote locations with less visible impact of globalisation. What all of the photographs share regardless of location is that they are unnoticeable forgotten places that have lost a name, face and sight of the future.
