Debuting more than two decades ago in 1999, PUMA’s Mostro sneaker takes its name from the Italian word for monster. This iconic and convention-defying sneaker is a hybrid creation that stands out while fitting in—captivating enthusiasts with its distinctive and sculptural design—drawing inspiration from two diverse realms, the sleek but tough sprinting spikes of the '60s and the chilled-out surfing shoes of the '80s. The Mostro encapsulates the spirit of the era with its avant-garde approach, making it a symbol of the turn-of-the-millennium zeitgeist. 

Walking the line between sport and style, the low-top silhouette boasts defining features such as its signature spiked sole and versatile strap closure. Promising maximum flexibility and comfort, the Mostro is constructed with a mesh upper, overlaying PUMA Formstrip and finished with the brand’s signature alternative Velcro closure system, lycra liner and non-slip dimpled sole. Introduced in a Light Grey and Yellow colour combination earlier this year, for the second drop, the experimental sneaker arrives in two neon variations; Pink Delight and Ignite Blue. 

Drawing inspiration from the transformative influence of sportswear and the growing impact of sport-style sneakers, LN-CC embodies the strength, movement, and resilience of the Mostro sneaker. Collaborating with acclaimed photographer Isabelle Wenzel, each image captures various stages of motion, balancing, restricting and elongating the human form. In a unique twist, alongside male and female models, Isabelle herself steps in front of the lens using a self-timer. The trained acrobat assumes gravity-defying positions, maintaining them until the camera clicks. 

The Mostro epitomised its era—a period at the cusp of the millennium when anticipation for the future was ubiquitous—possessing a futuristic allure that was unmistakably ahead of its time. Groundbreaking in 1999 and still a masterpiece today, the Mostro effortlessly blurs the line between sport and style.
