Reveries of a Lost Life Mask brings together artist Aurel Schmidt's and American poet Franz Wright. Aurel Schmidt uses graphite and coloured pencils to create delicate detailed drawings that are powerfully accompanied by the poems. The book is full of juxtapositions, objects such as condoms, flies and cigarette packs are used to form larger images such as a flower made out of a collection of cigarette butts. The highly skilled technique of her work is beautiful, but the subject matter could be described as nauseating, this balance is the books strength. Schmidt demonstrates the daily balance between nature and man as a reminder of our own vulnerability.
