Occupied Spaces

Occupied Spaces

During October of last year the Occupy movement set up semi-permanent camps outside St. Paul's Cathedral and Finsbury Square in the business centre of London. The camps were a form of protest to raise awareness of the socio-economic inequalities. Within the camps members built makeshift libraries, universities and homes. The camps were greeted within mixed emotions and on the 25th of October several newspapers ran articles claiming that thermal imaging proved only ten percent of the two hundred and fifty tents were actually occupied. Intrigued and sceptical of these claims photographer Ben Roberts decided to enter the camps and capture the communal living spaces and whether these claims had any founding.
