A coat worn by King George during WW1 inspires the King George Coat. The top half of this double-breasted coat is made with Mackintosh, a waterproof cotton made by bonding 2 layers of cotton fabric together with a rubber solution, and the bottom half is made with recycled wool. The use of the two fabrics was purely for function: the top half was to keep dry; the bottom was to keep the core warm. The slanted map pocket was strategically placed to allow easy access to maps and papers, which was typically found on dispatcher’s jackets during the war. The bellowed pockets on the bottom of the jacket are convenient for holding multiple objects.

This King George coat is made from beige Mackintosh cotton on the top part of the garment, and an olive coloured recycled wool on the lower part. The sleeves feature a cuffing detail that fastens with a single green button, and under each arm there are five ventilation holes. The coat is double-breasted and fastens on the right-hand side with four green buttons, with the option to fasten higher up using an extra button that is hidden behind the lapel. Four other buttons run parallel to those on the right and there is a hidden button at chest height that fastens on the inside. On the left-hand side of the coat is a slanted ‘map’ pocket made of wool that overlaps with the Mackintosh section of the coat. There are two large pockets on the front of the coat towards the bottom at each side. They each feature a flap enclosure that fastens with two buttons. The coat is unlined and all the edges have been left raw.

100% bonded cotton, other fabric recycled wool. Hand wash only.
