Rooted in the medieval Celtic Samhain festival, Halloween marked the end of the old and the beginning of the new year, when it was believed that evil spirits were passing through. To avoid being recognized and caught by the ghosts, the people masked and costumed themselves.
Consumerism drowned the once magical and mystical tradition of Halloween.
