The Children Living In Washington Heights is the latest book to arrive on-line at LN-CC. During the late 20th Century, Yamamura Gasho's took portraits of children in a place that was formerly known as ‘Washington Heights’ in Tokyo, Japan. Now known as ‘Yoyogi Park’, this location was previous residence for U.S. officers during post World War II, which allied the occupation of Japan. The images suggest that this place was a typical American Town; however the truth was far from this. The continuation of everyday life in an upturned society created much fascination for local photographer Yamamura, who revisited the location many times documenting this foreign occupation. The photographs lay forgotten until Yusaku Hosoya compiled these images together for this intriguing, socio-political book.
