ΣΕΡΑΠΙΣ (Serapis) is a luxury-fashion label founded in Athens, Greece that was established in 2014 by Serapis Maritime Corporation. A voyage of a company's tanker ship from Poland to Saudi Arabia through the Suez Canal inspired their first collection, featuring images of the ship’s crew and journey transformed into innovative prints in silk paneled garments and accessories, uncomplicated designs and pieces inspired by ship workers clothing. Fusing fashion, art and the shipping industry the brand is an ambassador of the creativity of Greece and its thriving art. Serapis are inspired by the sea, by the aura of shipping, the processes in their everyday work and especially by the people that make it possible. All garments and works of the company are limited edition or from a unique series of pieces. The silk garments of Serapis are woven with 100% premium Soufli silk, which is considered to be one of the highest quality silks in the world. Soufli, the Silk City as it is named, is a town located at the Northern-East corner of Greece. It carries a long and rich history of silk weaving - with origins going as far back as the years of the Byzantine Empire.

All works and clothes we create, are limited editions series of pieces numbered and signed, or even unique. We offer a unique mix of experience and fresh energy to form a streamlined operation in which both our people and products are highly tuned to client expectations, striving for perfection on an international level. Quite simply, ΣΕΡΑΠΙΣ strategically floats above corporate structures and design practices not wanting to be limited by the restrictions of one or the other.

WHEN WAS SERAPIS CREATED AND WHO FOUNDED IT??

ΣΕΡΑΠΙΣ was founded under another alias by my father in Piraeus in May 1979 as a strictly ship owning and ship management company. In January 2014, we had a vision to expand our operations and build a platform where we could use our team's knowledge and training on contemporary art and fashion, fused with our passion for shipping, the sea and the sun. After a long period of incubation, sourcing high quality fabrics, factories and the finest silk from Soufli in northern Greece, we designed and launched our first collection in June 2015.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS MARITIME AND INDUSTRIAL AESTHETIC?

Coming from a shipping environment and nurtured by the sea and the maritime world, it came naturally to infuse this visual stimuli into the creative projects of ΣΕΡΑΠΙΣ. There was also an abundance of historical archival material gathered over the years, which was a big inspiration for us. But a very particular photographic coverage of a trip with a tanker ship from Poland to Saudi Arabia through the Suez Canal, was the basis of our first collection 'I Will Care For You And Nurture Your Soul'.

Thus, we try to fuse worker imagery and clothing references with high-end materials and innovative design.
