Since its spring/summer 17 launch, Danse Lente, which means “slow dance” in French, has felt like a breath of fresh air on both our arms and our Insta-feeds. By infusing modern aesthetics, architecture and a sense of playful curiosity to its growing range of purpose-driven bags, the London-based leather brand has been a-like-button hit. As its freshest collection of bags launches at LN-CC – from the Constantin Brancusi-inspired Mini Johnny to the sleek, slouchy, and spacious Lake and 90s-influenced Big Misty – we matched the bags with the flamboyant floristry of Emily Davies’s Athlyn for a series of still lifes.
Having graduated from the MA Footwear course from London College of Fashion’s prestigious Cordwainers in 2013, founder and designer Youngwon Kim initially pursued freelance design projects before turning her attention to launching her own London-based accessories brand. She hasn’t looked back. “Shoes are connected with the body, so the form is restricted,” she explained of the switch to bag design. “There are a lot of things you can’t do in terms of design, but a bag can be anything though, it’s very free.” This freedom continually inspires finely finished, sculptural handbags that are always experimental and unique in form. These are bags to pause over, so why not stop and smell the flowers with Danse Lente.
