Psychedelic, tactile-rich fabrics and brimming with flower power wouldn’t be what first comes to mind when thinking about workwear brand Carhartt WIP, but Marni? More likely. Partnership between the two launches Marni Jam, the Italian house’s multidisciplinary programme that will unfold globally. In the opening chapter of dialogues with other creative minds, Marni Jam shifts Carhartt WIP’s familiar codes into a groovily-gaudy capsule that champions functional pragmatism with Marni’s art-like prints and generous volumes.
This mash up of core values sees the Carhartt tuxedo get the Marni treatment as iconic WIP utilitarian silhouettes are reintroduced in comforting shearling and buttery calfskin, while robust canvas is splashed in a two-tone clover print that calls to mind the floral wallpaper that adorned countless bedrooms in the 1970s. The whimsy continues with a t-shirt/basketball tank hybrid, and a heart-shaped version of the traditional brass buttons that fastened Carhartt products as far back 1889. Pockets are co-branded with logo patches and embroidered monogram motifs that utilise a unique single thread embroidery technique.
