Since its inception in 2009, Veilance has created a new class of performance apparel by applying a highly technical approach to real world applications. Launched as an extension of outdoor company Arc'teryx, the Vancouver-based brand has treated the demands and conditions of urban environments as its parent company treats those of mountains. While the parameters and outcomes are different, obsessive, precise design and production drive each of them forward. Essentially, Veilance applies a highly technical approach to real world applications.
Taking inspiration from Ben Zank’s images for Veilance autumn/winter 20 shot in British Columbia, LN-CC wanted to celebrate the brand’s latest product drop by creating a film that built on the surrealism of the lookbook but placed the performance pieces inside an urban cityscape. To help us realise this vision, we turned to London-based director James Barber and Untold Studios who enlisted professional freerunner Joe Scandrett to defy gravity as he put the collection to the test.
The film provides the first listen to Otzeki’s Leave Yourself Alone. “The song is a sci-fi inner journey to the Andromeda galaxy, leaving yourself and your earthly worries behind to travel far out into space,” the cousins explain over email, just days before a new release announcement. “Joel and I were playing around on some synths at Super Unison Studios in Peckham and the music kinda escaped from there.” Escapism is what we all need right now, so press play and lose yourself in a Veilance-clad world far away from lockdown.
