While the oceans give us life, we give them plastic. More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our ocean every year. If we fail to clean up the plastic and stop the continued pollution of the oceans, we are facing the potential extinction of many sea life species and the interruption of the entire ecosystem. As bleak as the statistics are, the LN-CC team are forever inspired by our conscious partners and we know that we can end this toxic relationship, together. On World Oceans Day, we launch our partnership with Ocean Bottle.
From the moment it launched in 2019, Ocean Bottle has been an impact company first, and a reusable bottle company second. Afterfall, the catalyst for its launch came while founder Will Pearson worked as a deckhand and encountered ‘Rubbish Island’, Thilafushi in the Maldives. On this island, plastic from resorts is burned and then left to drift out into the ocean. With these visuals ingrained in his mind, he researched further into the problem and discovered that 22 million kgs of plastic pours into the ocean on a daily basis. Yet up to 80% of the world's ocean plastic comes from a lack of waste management infrastructure in coastal communities around the world. “The good news is that there are solutions out there that can turn the tap off this plastic waste before it enters the ocean,” he recently explained. Ocean Bottle’s solution is creating award winning reusable ocean impact products that fund the collection of 1000 plastic bottles in weight through every sale. Together with their partner, Plastic Bank, these funds go to places with high levels of mismanaged plastic waste.
Over 4300 plastic collectors live and work in places where plastic pollution is worst, they do the critical work to collect, sort and recycle much of the world’s waste. Some collectors work full time and for others, it's a side hustle to earn extra income for the family. Locals can then exchange plastic they collect for the things they need, such as money, healthcare, tuition or goods. Earlier this month they revealed that after selling 141,415 bottles, they have collected 1,607,606 kilograms of plastic waste – the same weight as over 141,000 plastic bottles or eleven whales. They have collected enough plastic bottles to go around the world 2.22 times! Impressed by their empowering solutions and no bullshit sustainability approach, Ocean Bottle is the perfect partner for World Oceans Day and beyond.
Our collaborative reusable water bottle is designed to keep plastic out of the ocean. Created to be the last reusable bottle you’ll ever need, this water bottle is built to last, dishwasher safe, easy clean, has a double opening and keeps your drinks hot or cold. This is a small bottle with a big impact. While each Ocean Bottle funds the collection of 1000 plastic bottles. supported by Plastic Bank, for every ocean bottle bought on June 8th, they will collect an additional 100 plastic bottles. So, for 24 hours of collective action, each ln-cc ocean bottle will fund the collection of 1,100 plastic bottles. Hydration never looked so good or did so much good.
