Brand history
Born in Delhi, textile and fashion designer, Swati Kalsi, has been noted for her distinct and unique hand embroidered clothing created in partnership with artisans from villages of Bihar, India. Honoured for bringing contemporary relevance to traditional craftsmanship, she positions women’s artisanal embroidery as a uniquely artistic cultural legacy. Using age old traditional embroidery called Sujani; Kalsi combines her timeless designs profoundly inspired by nature and natural process to produce transcendent pieces. Pushing for the sustainability of this time honoured craftsmanship, Kalsi focuses on creating layered and textured rhythmic pieces that sit on the cusp of design, craft and art. Fractals, lively patterns and gradations have become Kalsi’s ‘vocabulary for ornamentation’, realised in Tussah silks and fine cottons collections evoke a spiritual aesthetic.
