Brand history
The Belgian designer, Raf Simons is heavily inspired by past rebellious youth subcultures of the nineties and looks to fuse this with the precision and techniques of traditional menswear in his eponymous label, launched in 1995. Constantly looking to redefine masculinity, personal statements about individuality are inherent to his creative process. Despite a continuous quest for innovation, elements fundamental to the Raf Simons brand remain firmly intact. Modern proportions, classic construction and unique, quality fabrics designed with the confident outsider in mind.
Filtering through the Spring/Summer 2016 collection, Raf Simons presents a capsule of elevated basics: Oversized T-Shirts and sleeveless hoodies are emblazoned with David Sims photography. These portraits however, are not new to diehard fans of the label, having been published in the collaboration book of the same name, published in 1999. They featured images of street cast models wearing the Spring/Summer 2000 collection and it is the same faces depicted on the streetwear essentials of today.
