DRESSED FOR DOWNPOUR
MADE TO EMBRACE THE RAIN, LACOSTE'S FW26 COLLECTION TURNS A MOMENT OF THEIR OWN HISTORY INTO SOMETHING WEARABLE
When rainfall hit the court of the 1923 Davis Cup match between René Lacoste and Manuel de Gomar, the spectators took to wearing protective layers to embrace the weather. Witnessing Lacoste's pivotal win in his journey to becoming world champion, the moment the audience collectively chose to don their ponchos and trench coats would become the main inspiration for the brand's Fall/Winter 2026 collection.

It makes sense to look at those in the stands, as tennis is a sport full of spectacle, not only for performance but for style, and Lacoste have spent the last nine decades exploring the history of this dynamic. Where their founder's win could have taken centre stage, for this collection, it's all about the attention towards those who braced the downpour – those who would wear Lacoste off the court.

From a moment in time over a century ago to a collection of technical elegance, Lacoste partnered with Mackintosh for pieces like their Waterproof Trench Coat, demonstrating a sophisticated approach to functionality. Made from the Scottish brand's signature Mackintosh cloth, the coat was created using heritage taping techniques, resulting in a kind of stylised endurance.

With a colour palette steeped in the rusts created by the rain, the pink and red hues of the Piqué Mohair Sweater and Polo Shirt become standouts in the backdrop of a misty metropolis. Accessorising with the Matchday Heels, Lenglen Purse, and Mirror Effect Leather Bag, a playfulness peaks through, one that could only come from the brand's own sportswear origins yet still paired with a refined sensibility.

Interstice extrapolated into something wearable, the collection now adorns DJ Emerald Rose Lewis and artist Miles from Kinshasa, who become intimate with a piece of Lacoste's own history.
