Uk 77: Digging My Way To London
- Publisher: Getsuyosha Ltd. Tokyo
- Year: 2007
- Format: Hardcover with dust jacket
- Edition: First
- Condition: Very good
An established Japanese artist since the 1980’s, Shinro Ohtake has produced dozens of books incorporating collage, drawing, painting, and photography. In 1977 at the age of twenty-two, Ohtake spent a stretch of time in London, documenting the city through photographs, drawings, paintings and scrapbooks. What emerged during this productive period is a grim portrait of London still mired in the drab leftovers of the 1960’s, but with odd glimmers of excitement through the emergence of punk and other subcultures. Alongside this portrayal of the city is a lonely depiction of youth, with the artist himself sketching figures in pubs, parks and on trains, collecting matchbooks and bus tickets and traipsing the streets, photographing frenetically.
