Born in Hiroshima, Issey Miyake founded his Tokyo-based design studio in 1970. After ten years he started exploring advanced methods of clothing construction and development, this culminated in the creation of his now-famous pleating technique and the diffusion line Pleats Please. His relentless experimentation and tenacious approach to creation have pushed both the tradition and evolution of design. Pleats Please Issey Miyake collections consider the body’s form and movement; developing soft structural pieces that are curious, directional and dynamic, enabled through the practice of patented pleated technology.
