Two Sunsets - Katy Komatsu
Liverpool‘s Two Sunsets have steadily been attaining rave reviews locally following the quickfire selling out of their debut 45 “Venetian Skies“ (also on The GPS earlier in the year) and especially off the back of advance listens to the great “Katy Komatsu” here. With mastering and production from Sonic Boom, the A side is a gorgeously melodic, hazy summer pop gem, occasionally haunting with hooks to die for, this one’s as pretty much perfect a slice of out of focus, summer psych as it gets.
Both tunes here have a feel uniquely their own- the B side especially, “Searchlights” feels like the backdrop to some late summer psychedelic fairground soundtrack, which under Sonic Boom’s tutorage takes on an air of half speed slow motion comedown. Just gorgeous and coupled with the GPS eye for packaging (linen card sleeve, sticker and split duo tone half clear / half blue wax) makes this one pretty much an essential 45.
Released as a hand numbered edition of 400 on 7” vinyl only.
