The iconic design of the jackets is thought to have been borrowed from the style of the classic American letterman – making them perfectly appealing to visiting U.S. navy personnel, who would commission the embroidery of the jackets with traditional Japanese motifs. With clear and detailed images, this book functions as a visual dictionary of the many styles of sukajan popular throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s. With text in Japanese.
