STORE MIX 100 ARCHIVE: MISHA HOLLENBACH

LN-CC’S 100TH STORE MIX IS RELEASED ALONGSIDE TWO LIMITED EDITION LN-CC X SPACE AVAILABLE T-SHIRTS AND TOTE BAG FEATURING THE NAMES OF EACH DJ TAKING PART.

Misha Hollenbach is a multidisciplinary artist, a dynamic DJ and one half of fashion label and publishing house P.A.M. No stranger to LN-CC, Misha produced his first store mix for us over 10 years ago. We called upon the multi-hyphenated talent for a new rhythm and fresh outlook to commemorate LN-CC’s 100th Store Mix.

Misha leans towards the unexpected, the spontaneous and the unrestrained – all encapsulated with a heavy dose of ambiance and mystery beats, a hint of post-punk, a touch of drum and bass, and a pinch of emo angel rap. He tops it off with some ethnographic field recordings for a unique blend of (Nether) World Music.

Welcome back to Store Mix! It’s more than 10 years since we published your original one. How have your musical tastes changed since 2012?

Misha: Music hasn’t changed! My taste definitely hasn’t. I love music that transports. Music will take me away. If it doesn’t, I won’t go there.

What inspired your Store Mix 100?

Misha: I made a mix of what I'm actually listening to atm. I live in the HERE and NOW. So most of what is on this mix is current. There’s not really any looking back, I’ve been digging the present, rather than digging up the past... ;) Also, so many friends and peers are making amazing music. Some of it is here on this mix. They speak the same language. They communicate to us via sound. Plus, I’m currently on a long haul flight, here’s a mix that is suitably transportative. It’s a time machine taking us into the present moment.

We know that art is your first love, could you describe what a cover image for this mix might look like?

Misha: A snapshot of my brain. Constant flux, constant motion, a combination of doors opening and also closing. Of cells dying off and new pathways presenting themselves. It’s chaos but not chaotic. It’s calm and bouncy. It’s a pretty good cover. It’s a window.

How do you want listeners to feel when they press play?

Misha: Relaxed. Ready to relax and let go.

The LN-CC store is closed for refurbishments so we can’t throw the big birthday bash that Store Mix 100 deserves. Let's transport to a fantasy celebration ... what tracks are you playing to get people moving, who’s on your guestlist and where’s the afterparty?

Misha: There is no afterparty. This party doesn’t end. There is only pure dance floor fantasy. I would say whoever reads this and closes their eyes will hear what they need to hear. They will move to their beat. They will feel themselves in the moment. On the dance floor, in the air, under the water. Busby Berkley. Elenora Carrington. Aldous Huxley, are all invited, but you too. You are all invited to expand your total selves.

… and what are you wearing?

Misha: In-ear headphones. Airplane eye mask. “Comfortable clothes”. Merino underwear. A blanket.

What keeps you coming back to LN-CC?

Misha: I never left. LN-CC is in my mind. (*that CAVE SLAVE listening/dancing party)

Other than your own, are there any Store Mixes over the years that you have loved?
