Beau Wanzer Svengalisghost - CCCP2
Following hot on the heels of his long awaited release on L.I.E.S. Beau Wanzer brings the full firepower to the A-side of CCCP02. 'Hey Hey Hey Hey' is the sound of a Chicago basement from inside the speaker cabs, as a rolling Juke rhythm is accompanied by distorted drones and a low end rumble. This shit's raw yo. 'Hoedown' also has more than a hint of windy city flair about it, combining a jacking rhythm with a sonic boom of white noise distortion, a nagging synth line hidden under a mass of murk and the occasional super slo mo vocal. Ron Hardy would be proud. On the flip, Svengalisghost goes straight to the witching hour with the twilight zone techno of 'The Booth'. Employing haunting vocal snippets washed in echo and reverse reverb, on top of a murderous techno bassline and undulating top melody, Sven (as he's possibly known to his friends) twists the track inside out and takes your brain along for the ride. One for the pitch black rooms out there. Last but not least, 'Dark Mistress' is a blurred and hazy analogue techno track that brings to mind the wave of New N.Y. producers (Mister Saturday Night, Anthony Naples, Huerco S), with its shifting synth washes and restrained percussion.
